Career in Cyber Security

February 19, 2020 by No Comments | Category Cyber Resilience, Cyber Resilience Education

As part of our work to raise awareness of cyber security jobs, Skills Development Scotland have produced resources which support individuals and industry to navigate the cyber security careers and education landscape in Scotland.

Our Cyber Security Careers Map highlights the 15 most common roles in cyber security in Scotland and helps people understand the typical responsibilities, salary ranges and qualifications you might need for these jobs. We are also working on ‘A Guide to Cyber Security Qualifications’ which highlights all school, college and university qualifications in cyber security in Scotland. This will be available soon on Digital World.

“We are already seeing an overwhelming number of organisations and schools requesting these resources to support individuals who have an interest in the sector, but may have been confused or unsure about what roles existed in Cyber Security” says Laura McEwan, Cyber Skills Project Manager at Skills Development Scotland.

Shona McAlpine, a Computing Science Teacher of Stirling High School in Stirling is already seeing the positive difference these resources are making to her school;

“As we run CyberDiscovery, CyberFirst Girls and have a number of pupils doing the NPA in Cyber Security, having good quality and related material is always useful especially as I am not a Cyber Security or Network Specialist.

Although directed at pupils looking to go through it as a career, these resources has been useful when talking about certain types of jobs and language used in the industry.

These are all on display both on the wall and on the ‘information table’ for pupils to access”
