We have opted not to\u00a0use standards as\u00a0a single way of describing material created as part of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mygov.scot\/\"><span class=\"s2\">mygov.scot<\/span><\/a>\u00a0programme, instead opting to use standards, recommendations and guidelines.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>What are the definitions of standards, recommendations and guidelines?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><b><\/b><span class=\"s1\"><b>Standards \u2013<\/b>\u00a0a set of requirements that a service must implement, unless a specific exception is made<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><b><\/b><span class=\"s1\"><b>Recommendations \u2013<\/b>\u00a0recommendations should be implemented where it delivers benefits for the user and is deemed cost effective to do so (e.g. it will not involve large costs). This will initially focus on the endorsement of industry \/ open standards<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><b><\/b><span class=\"s1\"><b>Guidelines \u2013<\/b>\u00a0additional and supporting material that partners could consider if they lack existing capability in the relevant area<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">When creating\u00a0material, we will also be revisiting and refreshing our core digital principles \u2013 providing insight into our overall approach.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Who are the intended audience?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Our initial audience for all material is the immediate team. We have been producing bits and pieces\u00a0to various levels of completeness, throughout the division, whilst delivering\u00a0our first <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.mygov.scot\/\"><span class=\"s2\">alpha<\/span><\/a>\u00a0release. It\u2019s our current thinking and we are putting it into practice.\u00a0Once tidied up,\u00a0we aim to make material readable and usable for a wider audience.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol class=\"ol1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Created\u00a0for Scottish (Central) Government &amp; NDPBs, whose content or transactional services may appear on <span class=\"s2\">mygov.scot<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Made available to the wider public sector<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>What things are the team looking at first?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><b><\/b><span class=\"s1\"><b>Blog posts<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 early\u00a0thoughts ranging from\u00a0content\u00a0style to quality attributes, made available on\u00a0<span class=\"s2\">inside.mygovscot.org<\/span>. We\u2019ll be looking at what\u2019s out there already, taking this into account before needlessly recreating content.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><b><\/b><span class=\"s1\"><b>Draft documents<\/b> \u2013 we will produce a series of initial documents in line with the development of alpha, making them available in a section on\u00a0<span class=\"s2\">inside.mygovscot.org<\/span>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">We will also be doing an initial light touch review of\u00a0our colleagues work in <a href=\"https:\/\/gds.blog.gov.uk\/about\/\"><span class=\"s2\">Government Digital Service (GDS)<\/span><\/a>. We aim validate material that is appropriate, relevant and in line with our thoughts as soon as we can. This won\u2019t be overnight, but is something we are looking at as a priority.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">We\u2019re also actively exploring how to bring all this\u00a0together into a coherent, consistent offering that is easy to read and to understand.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>When will this material be made available?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Blog posts and draft\u00a0documents will be made available\u00a0on an on-going basis, released both iteratively and in chunks. They will be light, informative and will avoid duplication wherever possible.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">This blog post is the first in a series focused on our\u00a0initial\u00a0run of topics.\u00a0<i>Expect these posts over the next few weeks<\/i><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Draft documents will be made available once we have articulated and tested our thoughts on subjects through our delivery teams.\u00a0<i>Expect these to be available on the web once we have confirmed\u00a0a route for publishing<\/i><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Our first run of posts will cover early thoughts on topics including:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Quality attributes<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Content style<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Visual (branding, styling, look and feel)<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">User experience<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Accessibility<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Information security<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Who will be approving and ratifying this material?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">We need to ensure that all draft documents are\u00a0suitably assured. This means we need to actively seek out representation, where appropriate,\u00a0to instil a level of trust in their quality and appropriateness. We are currently exploring options.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Is there any support available?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">We aim to support efforts\u00a0through our transformation team, with initial engagement taking place through a list of early partners.
