This morning\u00a0these fixes, features and improvements have been made available to users through our latest release. We wanted to share a summary of these through our regular \u2018What we\u2019re been working on\u2019 blog posts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Our ambition, as always,\u00a0is to learn from how people respond to these changes \u2013 through feedback, analytics and testing.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Website<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Improvements to the experience offered by our browser pages, improving both the look and feel and the organisation of information\u00a0offered to users. This has provided the opportunity to\u00a0make them\u00a0easier to use and to increase awareness of where the user is at any given moment<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Embeddable video. We have traditionally focused on creating text based content, however as the needs of users become better understood we are building tools to allow us to handle other content types (e.g. images, video and downloadable files). The need for video became apparent through sessions where we found out from\u00a0stakeholders that they were\u00a0providing\u00a0video content on DVDs to in-need citizens. This feature will streamline that process\u00a0by making the videos available online for the first time. We are making use of YouTube to host. We\u2019ll iterate on this in the coming weeks, reusing our styling and accessibility content for our new video player<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Definitions can now\u00a0be displayed through to users as\u00a0a hover\/tooltip feature. We will still write out definitions and acronyms in full the first time they are used, however subsequent mentions will now be available via a\u00a0tooltip. This allows content to\u00a0remain easy to read for people\u00a0who are aware\u00a0of terminology\u00a0(such as our expected core readers for information about\u00a0tax), whilst giving others the opportunity to continue to be able to see full definitions<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Google Tag Manager<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">We\u2019re transitioning to using Google\u2019s Tag Manager to control our tagging setup \u2013 namely our ability to deploy Google Analytics tags. We\u2019ve been able to make some huge improvements to our ability to implement tagging, respond to changes in the code and measure\u00a0usage. We\u2019re keen to share more about our setup over the coming weeks\u00a0and to share\u00a0some of our automated reporting spreadsheets for you performance people out there!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Publishing Platform<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Improvements to\u00a0the default filters for content items, helping to make it quicker for our content editors to find content that they have\u00a0been working on<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Ability for fact-checkers who work for\u00a0external organisations to be able to access content on our site to review it before live. As the scope of our content grows it is important to be able to allow other external\u00a0users to be able to review and suggest changes to our content<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">New markdown shortcodes to support definitions<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Decommissioning tool\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Ability to create\u00a0bulk redirects, saving time when matching old URLs to new URLs and to allow for the\u00a0creation of redirects which contain <i>regular expressions<\/i><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">These things are both essential to allow us to redirect content from\u00a0bigger and more complex sites. We\u2019ll be updating our decommissioning process blog post in the coming weeks to reflect our new process as well, as the tool has developed over time to support our overall approach<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">We\u2019ll be posting a series of \u00a0blog posts with a more detailed breakdown of some of these\u00a0features\u00a0in the\u00a0coming weeks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>We\u2019ll be sharing updates on this feature (and much more) on social, so follow the team via <\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mygovscot\"><span class=\"s2\"><i>@mygovscot<\/i><\/span><\/a><i> on Twitter for more updates.
