When the team arrives in the office every morning, I\u2019d like to think they have three things on their mind: breakfast (who doesn’t?), the morning update and what they are going to achieve that day. However, a morning in late September also introduced an additional consideration for some of the team; the\u00a0challenge of communicating through a translator.<\/span><\/p>\n

Introducing the\u00a0\u201cCommunist Party\u2019s Central Steering Committee on Information Technology in Vietnam\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

We had the opportunity that morning to spend time with some of our\u00a0Vietnamese counterparts, as part of a\u00a0wider\u00a0visit to Scottish Government<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The visiting group’s\u00a0official title was\u00a0\u201cCommunist Party\u2019s Central Steering Committee on Information Technology in Vietnam\u201d –\u00a0a bit of a mouthful but we soon learned we had much in common,\u00a0including a passion for long names.<\/p>\n

The delegates did not speak any English, which made those advance thoughts on communication so important. Communicating in manageable, clear phrases through a translator can be a challenge and it does remind me of the challenge\u00a0our content designers tackle communicating Government information.<\/p>\n

The importance of improving public services<\/strong><\/p>\n

We were able to explain to our counterparts how important our team believe\u00a0it is to have a central point of access for public services within Scotland. We also spoke about how the website is supported by a purpose built publishing platform, and that the teams\u00a0are proactively engaging with the public sector to create content that meets the needs of users.<\/p>\n
