As we progress into the <a href=\"https:\/\/inside.mygov.scot\/2015\/06\/12\/our-next-100-days-out-of-beta\/index.html\"><span class=\"s3\">second 100-day drive<\/span><\/a>, it seems like\u00a0a good time to reflect\u00a0on how people felt about both the approach and what we delivered over the period.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The drive was set up with four main areas;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">deliver with\u00a0the <a href=\"https:\/\/inside.mygov.scot\/2015\/04\/01\/digitising-justice\/index.html\"><span class=\"s3\">Justice cluster<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0using user-centric research methods and beginning to build\u00a0upon our relationship<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">establish a more radical and dynamic approach to content, surfacing priority services\u00a0from across the public sector<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">establish partnerships and assessing opportunities for reuse<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">moving to using a lean kanban method for managing flow<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This focus on four key workstreams was to provide the teams with a clear set of objectives. In order to understand just how well things worked\u00a0we gathered feedback from the team by\u00a0asking what they thought.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1707 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/digital\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/07\/100-day-drive_word-cloud.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"458\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/digital\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/07\/100-day-drive_word-cloud.jpg 700w, https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/digital\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/07\/100-day-drive_word-cloud-300x196.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/digital\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/07\/100-day-drive_word-cloud-642x420.jpg 642w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 700px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 700\/458;\" \/><\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">We\u2019ve collated some of most interesting comments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Feedback on\u00a0the\u00a0approach<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">As well as reflecting on the work that we were doing people also shared their thoughts on the focus on short-term objectives through regular drives. Although mainly positive,\u00a0not everything was perceived as\u00a0working\u00a0perfectly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Positives included that the drive provided a\u00a0\u201cfocused effort for the team\u201d and\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThe regained focus in the quality of the product was, for me, the highlight of the 100 days\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cA few setbacks, but it showed good indications of\u00a0our capacity to deliver\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThe 100 days was a great way to establish a high-level checkpoint\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Negatives included\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI believe there is \u2018cultural debt\u2019 that needs to be addressed. Ways of working and shared values could perhaps be a focus next\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI was disappointing that there was not a satisfactory conclusion, where we could celebrate our achievements\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Feedback on our delivery<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Justice Digital Strategy aims to increase access to information about the justice process in Scotland. Our involvement was to work collaboratively with Justice\u00a0colleagues to\u00a0create user centric content through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mygov.scot\/\"><span class=\"s3\">www.mygov.scot<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>\u201cWork that we are doing could help vulnerable people avoid being in financial difficulty by providing the right information to them at that life event\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>\u201cCollaboration with the specific Justice policy team was essential and their guidance was critical, with a keen eye for detail and semantics\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>\u201cEngaging with Third Sector organisations provided a true account of the citizens needs from an evolving government\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>\u201cWorking in a collaborative team\u2026\u00a0building user journey for a citizen facing repossession\u2026 we defined the brief, undertook research, created content and ways of interacting\u2026 followed up with usability testing\u2026 for me it was the full circle of user centred design.\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">We also made technological advances and transitioned legacy websites.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>\u201cGreat to see open sourcing has started\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>\u201cAdopting Amazon Web Services was\u00a0a big step forward\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>\u201c\u2026highlights were the decommissioning of alpha and Directscot\u201d<\/i><b><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">We switched from\u00a0Scrum to Kanban for managing our workflow and we used the period to help bed this in.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>\u201c\u2026\u00a0seeing the collaboration levels\u2026\u00a0constantly rising\u2026\u00a0working more as one team rather than being in silos\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>\u201cBetter collaboration after introducing Kanban\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>\u201cSeeing how well our\u2026 teams can work together when\u2026 empowered to make our own decisions\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">User research and user testing bookended much of our work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>\u201cJoining a great team, delivering some excellent content and doing insightful user research\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>\u201cSeeing the content on a\u00a0user acceptance testing environment made the demo to stakeholders a really positive experience\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>\u201cPositive feedback from highlighting the before and after impact content \/ UX \/\u00a0design can make to citizens\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">There were also efforts to\u00a0make better use of data, helping to improve the structure and prioritisation of content.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>\u201cThe information architecture work that has started has been really positive and has already generated some great ideas\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>\u201cHaving the expertise to put SEO and analytics into a space where we start to work proactively to define, design and measure is a huge step forward\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Finally, hackathons provide a counterpoint to\u00a0the intense focus on delivery, giving team members an opportunity to tackle other interesting projects.
