In the digital world, many of the old clich\u00e9s become trueisms: the pace of change really is eye-watering, and the possibilities really are endless! A key action from the recently refreshed Scottish <\/a>Government Digital Strategy<\/a> is to offer all public sector leaders an opportunity to participate in our “Digital Champions” programme. This excellent programme offers public service leaders a chance to come together and learn about the use of innovation and technology to support their digital transformation. Senior leaders have an important role to play in driving the pace of digital change.<\/p>\n

Cohort 7<\/p><\/div>\n

I was proud to participate in cohort two of the programme in 2014 and have watched it evolve into what it has become today. The programme is delivered in partnership with Leading Edge Forum<\/a> and Scotland IS<\/a>. Two cohorts (seven and eight, pictured) are just about to complete their journeys of exploration, having had a wide range of inputs from inspirational speakers and leading experts, along with opportunities to reflect on the challenges and opportunities for their own organisations and sectors.<\/p>\n

The Digital Champions programme aims to help leaders build a wider awareness of the transformative power of digital technology and empower participants with increased knowledge and the confidence to deliver this change.<\/p>\n

Cohort 8<\/p><\/div>\n

Digital Champions often appreciate the opportunity to network and share good practice. There are currently 120 public sector leaders who form part of a wider alumni group.<\/p>\n

In my role as Chief Executive of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) and recently as an interim deputy director in the Scottish Government\u2019s Digital Directorate, I have sharpened my interest in the benefits of digital transformation. The alumni regularly connects through social media, the knowledge hub<\/a>,\u00a0alumni events and digital case studies. This has helped me in my dual role and also enabled me to support the third sector\u2019s digital participation agenda.<\/p>\n

The programme going forward is being shaped to concentrate on how we support Scotland\u2019s vital digital economy and help leaders make the change that they need to make.
