Our ultimate aim is to help improve public services.<\/p>\n<h2>Why content standards are helpful<\/h2>\n<p>Everything that public sector organisations publish should meet their users\u2019 needs. Our standards will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>provide tools, techniques and processes you can use to make sure you\u2019ve taken your users into account when you\u2019re developing your content<\/li>\n<li>promote consistency in content strategy, delivery and maintenance<\/li>\n<li>give an overview of what content designers do, and the role they play in service teams<\/li>\n<li>let you know what to expect if you\u2019re going through <a href=\"https:\/\/resources.mygov.scot\/content-standards\/digital-first-service-standard\/\">Digital First Service Standard Assessment<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ultimately content is an important interaction between citizens and government. For example it could make the difference between someone getting access to the money or help they need, through clear and accessible guidance or understanding how to complete an application form.<\/p>\n<p>At the moment these interactions can be too complicated for users. We want to make sure there\u2019s a consistently good experience across all services.<\/p>\n<h2>Who they\u2019re for<\/h2>\n<p>Users need information from a range of organisations to find out, and do, what they need to.<\/p>\n<p>So our standards are for anyone who\u2019s responsible for delivering public services \u2013 people who work in central government, local government, the wider public sector and any other organisations that want to produce user-centred content.<\/p>\n<p>And they\u2019re not just for people designing services from scratch. They\u2019re also for organisations who want to improve their existing content, and manage it more effectively.<\/p>\n<h2>How we developed them<\/h2>\n<p>These standards are the result of consultation with content designers across the public sector.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019re based on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>best practice<\/li>\n<li>the content requirements for the Digital First Service Standard<\/li>\n<li>what we\u2019ve learnt during the projects we\u2019ve worked on<\/li>\n<li>the kinds of questions we\u2019re often asked by partner organisations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How we\u2019ll make sure they\u2019re up to date and relevant<\/h2>\n<p>We\u2019ll make sure the standards continue to describe and reflect best practice by acting on feedback from people who are using them.
