Blog update<\/strong> – We have now published our 23-24 assurance insights<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In 2022\/23 28 Digital Standard Assessments were completed under the Technology Assurance Framework<\/a> (TAF).\u00a0 The Digital Assurance Office, who administer the TAF, want to share the lessons learned from our assurance reviews.\u00a0 This blog shares our insights on the areas that presented the most challenge to projects going through a Digital Standard Assessment in 2022\/23.<\/p>\n

Digital standard assessments<\/strong><\/p>\n

New and transformed services are assessed against the\u00a0Digital Scotland Service Standard\u00a0<\/a>criteria. 16 of the 28 assessments were for medium to high risk\/cost services.\u00a0 The criteria that were most challenging for these services to meet in 2022\/23 are described below alongside recommendations made as part of the assessment for improvement.<\/p>\n

Areas for improvement<\/strong><\/p>\n

Criteria 3 – Design and deliver a joined-up experience<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Be responsible for the whole service \u2013 this means the end to end experience from a user\u2019s perspective including the citizen facing experience, internal systems, people and processes and taking account of supporting policy or legislation. \u00a0Make sure you are going to test from end to end and that the online and offline journey are same.\u00a0 Have a plan in place to collect feedback and prioritise improvements.<\/p>\n

Criteria 4 – Help users succeed first time<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Make sure you are testing the full service with all users, including those with low digital confidence.\u00a0 Have an end to end testing strategy across all channels.\u00a0 Make sure you test the name of the service.<\/p>\n

Criteria 5 – Make sure everyone can use the service<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Test the accessibility of the service with a range of users.\u00a0 Make sure that diverse perspectives are considered in service design so that it’s inclusive.\u00a0 Use simple language and test the content to make sure it meets requirements.<\/p>\n

Criteria 7 – Iterate and improve frequently<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Put appropriate governance structures in place that deliver continuous improvement. \u00a0Make plans for delivery and improvements. \u00a0Ensure that user needs are influencing the product backlog.\u00a0 Make sure test strategies and plans are in place.<\/p>\n

Criteria 9 – Define what success looks like and publish performance data<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Understand what success for the service looks like and how you will know and show it has been achieved.\u00a0 Make sure there is a continuous loop from data to improvement.\u00a0 Ensure that options for publishing performance information has been explored.\u00a0 Describe how the service will support the delivery of the National Outcomes.<\/p>\n

Criteria 14 – Ensure sponsor acceptance<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Have good governance structures with routes for escalation, decision making and managing risk. Put in place and keep up to date communication plans for the service.<\/p>\n

The Digital Assurance Office are working with organisations who have had assurance through the TAF to share insights which might help others deliver digital projects.<\/p>\n
