Since then,\u00a0we\u2019ve been genuinely heartened by how many of you have leaned in\u2014giving your time, sharing your experiences, joining groups, and contributing ideas. Your input has helped shape the journey to bring this vision to life.<\/p>\r\n<p>This update is for those who have been walking this path with us\u2014and for anyone curious about how we\u2019re turning words into action, together.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>New to this work? Start here:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>Here\u2019s a quick timeline to catch you up:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><strong>January 2024<\/strong>: Commitment made to take the vision forward.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>February 2024<\/strong>: Facilitators brought in to help shape the approach.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>May\u2013July 2024<\/strong>: Horizon Scan Group formed to co-create the vision. Result:\u00a0<em>\u201cScotland\u2019s data advances innovation and wellbeing for people and planet\u201d<\/em>\u2014supported by five ambitions, objectives and enabling conditions.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>October\u2013November 2024<\/strong>: Draft published and feedback gathered during the \u2018challenge\u2019 phase.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>February 2025\u2013present<\/strong>: Volunteers meeting monthly to explore how we make the vision real.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><strong>How we\u2019re making it happen\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>Our brilliant Realisation Group is bringing the vision to life. It\u2019s a space for open discussion and creative thinking, using service design approaches to explore where and how we can have the biggest impact.<\/p>\r\n<p>Here are 3 pieces of work the group are supporting at the moment<\/p>\r\n<ol>\r\n<li>Iterating the draft vision: Taking the feedback gathered in the challenge phase to update and finalise the ambitions, objectives and enabling conditions.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n<li>Ways of working: Setting out what will make the group more effective and productive. The intention is that the approaches we develop here can be captured and adopted by others.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n<li>How Might We?: Building a picture of the spectrum of data challenges to inform what solutions will be most impactful. Is it strengthening the influencing skills of data professionals? Raising awareness of how data supports policy and service development? Boosting confidence in using data across the workforce? We want to make sure we deliver on the outcomes that matter most to organisations (and btw we\u2019d love to get your views on these).<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<p><strong>You asked us to be more specific<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>One of the most common bits of feedback during the challenge phase was:\u00a0<em>\u201cBe more specific.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0And we get it\u2014sometimes it\u2019s easier to be told what\u2019s needed. That\u2019s how policy often works.<\/p>\r\n<p>But this vision was never about creating a policy. It\u2019s about supporting those working in data by offering a big-picture context. That\u2019s why it\u2019s designed to be relevant to any organisation, no matter where they are on their data journey.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Your Five-a-Day for Data<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>We believe everyone reading this has a role to play in realising the vision. Here are five ways to get involved:<\/p>\r\n<ol>\r\n<li><strong>Awareness: <\/strong>You\u2019ve already taken the first step by reading this\u2014thank you! Let\u2019s keep going\u2026<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Amplify: <\/strong>Share this blog with a colleague and your network. Repost it on LinkedIn, drop it into Teams or Slack. There are still many people who haven\u2019t heard about this work.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Assemble: <\/strong>Want to hear directly from us? We love to come and talk\u2014whether it\u2019s at a team meeting, at a conference, at any kind of event. And not just to \u2018data people\u2019\u2014because everyone needs and benefits from good data.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Apply: <\/strong>Take a look at the vision\u2019s wording. Does it align with what you\u2019re already doing or planning? If so, consider referencing it\u2014like the\u00a0<em>Unlocking the Value of Data<\/em>\u00a0team, who are talking about <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/digital\/2025\/01\/16\/unlocking-the-value-of-scotlands-data-response-to-report-published\/\">connecting with the vision.<\/a><br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Align: <\/strong>Could the vision help spark meaningful conversations within your organisation or with collaborators to create alignment? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.albynhousing.org.uk\/\">Albyn Housing<\/a> has already used the vision to support discussions with public sector partners. It\u2019s organisational neutrality offered a shared language and direction to bridge different perspectives. We see strong potential for the vision to enable discussions that could lead to more joined-up approaches to data sharing, infrastructure planning, recruitment, and procurement.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<p><strong>Let\u2019s keep the momentum going<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>These five-a-day ideas are just a starting point. You\u2019ll have your own\u2014and we\u2019d love to hear them.
