KeepCupdate

August 20, 2015 by No Comments | Category Waste

The figures are in, and the first week of our KeepCup scheme was a resounding success! We’ve sold over 1000 cups across the 8 Sodexo outlets. This is excellent news in terms of our waste reduction, as we think that our 1000 new KeepCup owners will divert 193,000 single-use cups from use over the next year. The number keeps rising too, as KeepCups start to catch on.

As well as the environmental benefits, everyone who has bought a KeepCup so far will be able to watch their savings mount up. This is not restricted to buying hot drinks from our staff restaurants – we’ve learned from staff feedback that high street coffee chains such as Starbucks also offer a discount to customers who bring in their own reusable cup.

The Environmental Management Team held promotional events at six Scottish Government buildings to celebrate the launch week. We gave away some KeepCups to lucky winners in our tombola competition and were on hand to answer any questions about the scheme. We also got lots of positive feedback, and it was great to see so many people using their KeepCups across the estate.

We hope that the number of KeepCup users across the Scottish Government will continue to rise, making a tangible reduction in our waste and environmental impact as well as continuing to brighten up our tea breaks.

Update, 11th September 2015

It’s been a month since we launched our KeepCup scheme, and we’re already seeing brilliant results in terms of waste reduction. Throughout August, over 1,300 KeepCups were sold – the majority of which were bought in the first week as people took advantage of the introductory reduced price.

A massive 7,685 hot drinks were served in KeepCups in August, which means thousands of single-use cups have been saved already. Staff have enjoyed a discounted rate every time they’ve purchased a hot drink in their KeepCup, collectively saving around £850 so far.

The Environmental Management Team would like to thank everyone who has supported the scheme so far, and is looking forward to seeing the number of single-use cups saved through the scheme continue to rise!
