{"id":806,"date":"2020-03-05T11:30:21","date_gmt":"2020-03-05T11:30:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/european-structural-and-investment-funds\/?p=806"},"modified":"2020-06-12T11:29:32","modified_gmt":"2020-06-12T10:29:32","slug":"what-comes-next","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/european-structural-and-investment-funds\/2020\/03\/05\/what-comes-next\/","title":{"rendered":"What comes next?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As we move towards the end of the current 2014-2020 European Structural and Investment Funds programmes, Scottish Government Ministers, officials and stakeholders are considering what will replace them. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Future Funding team was established in September 2019 to examine this issue, specifically how the <a href=\"https:\/\/researchbriefings.parliament.uk\/ResearchBriefing\/Summary\/CBP-8527\">UK Government\u2019s proposed Shared Prosperity Fund (SPF)<\/a> might work in Scotland. No detail has been provided yet on the SPF\u2019s scale, objectives or value. To develop our own thinking, the Future Funding team has led a <a href=\"https:\/\/consult.gov.scot\/economic-development\/replacement-of-european-structural-funds\/\">consultation<\/a> to gather stakeholders&#8217; views on how any replacement funding can best meet the needs of Scotland\u2019s citizens, businesses and communities.<\/p>\n<p>The consultation was overseen by an independent steering group chaired by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stir.ac.uk\/people\/256197\">Professor David Bell from the University of Stirling<\/a>, and ran from 5 November 2019 to 12 February 2020, attracting an enthusiastic response. 155 written submissions were received from a wide range of stakeholders, and almost 200 people took part in a series of eight workshops (pictured above) held across Scotland, from Dumfries &amp; Galloway to the Northern Isles.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"float: none;background-color: #ffffff;color: #333333;cursor: text;font-family: Georgia,'Times New Roman','Bitstream Charter',Times,serif;font-size: 16px;font-style: normal;font-variant: normal;font-weight: 400;letter-spacing: normal;text-align: left;text-decoration: none;text-indent: 0px;text-transform: none\">Karen McAvenue<\/span>, Future Funding team leader, said: \u201cWe are delighted with the level of engagement the consultation attracted. But that was the easy part and only the first stage in developing a uniquely Scottish take on the deployment of any successor funding. The consultation report will be available in the Spring, and will underpin policy development going forward.
