{"id":851,"date":"2020-06-09T15:20:35","date_gmt":"2020-06-09T14:20:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/european-structural-and-investment-funds\/?p=851"},"modified":"2020-06-09T15:24:22","modified_gmt":"2020-06-09T14:24:22","slug":"case-study-fernbrae-meadows-scottish-natural-heritage-european-regional-development-fund","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/european-structural-and-investment-funds\/2020\/06\/09\/case-study-fernbrae-meadows-scottish-natural-heritage-european-regional-development-fund\/","title":{"rendered":"CASE STUDY: Fernbrae Meadows &#8211; Scottish Natural Heritage (European Regional Development Fund)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Scottish Natural Heritage\u2019s Green Infrastructure (GI) Fund seeks to enhance the quality of life for people in urban communities by supporting projects that improve and expand greenspaces in towns and cities. <!--more-->The GI Fund is supported with \u00a316.4 million of allocated grant from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).<\/p>\n<p>In total there seven GI projects, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greeninfrastructurescotland.scot\/node\/656\">Fernbrae Meadows<\/a> in South Lanarkshire, and 11 smaller GI community engagement projects.<\/p>\n<p>For many years the area now known as Fernbrae Meadows was a derelict former golf course. Thanks to ERDF support, South Lanarkshire Council, in partnership with Scottish Natural Heritage,\u00a0transformed the area into more than 20 hectares of managed greenspace for local residents.<\/p>\n<p>Fernbrae Meadows is now an urban park containing new exercise areas, viewpoints, trees, a wildflower meadow, and around eight kilometres of paths and cycleways, improving accessibility to what was previously private land.
