To mark International Nurses Day, we\u2019ve taken a look at some of our family nurse stories \u2013 how they approach working in FNP and what it means to them.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Family Nurse Partnership (FNP) is a relational based programme, applied throughout the whole system.\u00a0Our FNP nurses develop strong, trusting relationships with the families they support, their peers and the wider team.\u00a0This way of working takes time and effort to develop and sustain. We know how hard our nurses work.<\/span><\/p>\n

As highlighted by one nurse: \u201cThe result of this style is a deeper therapeutic relationship with clients. The nurse is accepting and not judging which in turn aids trust and respect. I think it should be used throughout nursing and not just in FNP<\/i>\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

It is an intensive programme which relies on the dedication of our nurses to succeed. The demands on nurses are significant.\u00a0They make a commitment to embark on a continuous improvement journey. Nurses adhere to the fidelity of the programme, engage families with wider community services and seek opportunities to share their learning with others. <\/span><\/p>\n

The programme ensures nurses are supported in delivery. As one of our nurses describes: \u201cFNP has given me the education and confidence to work with families using a strengths based approach… it has also shown me how to develop a therapeutic relationship that supports the young person to make positive choices for their babies and their own future<\/i>\u201d. <\/span><\/p>\n

FNP asks a lot of nurses, but we have seen the benefits of the programme, with highly engaged families and happy, thriving children.<\/span><\/p>\n

The theme of International Nurses Day 2019 is \u201cThe Balance of Mind, Body and Spirit<\/i>\u201d.\u00a0We know our FNP Nurses play a valuable role in supporting the mental health of the mum\u2019s and babies they work with, but it is also important that they support their own health and wellbeing. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the biggest lessons I\u2019ve learned so far is the importance of self-care and prioritising looking after yourself. I think working in such an emotionally charged job it is vital to use strategies and supports to relax and refuel<\/i>\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

On this International Nurses Day we are celebrating the love, support and professionalism of our FNP nurses. Thank you for all you do for our FNP mums, dads and babies. <\/span><\/p>\n
