The theme of the event was \u2018Leading Integration for Quality\u2019 and it celebrated the new relationship between health and social care that is being embedded across Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>The Cabinet Secretary for Health, Wellbeing and Sport, Shona Robison opened the event and said from the outset that, as the demographics of our country change, so must the services we provide. Ms Robison went on to say that the event marked the start of a \u201cnational conversation\u201d about driving forward improvements in the quality of health and social care.<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/integrating-reshaping-care\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2015\/07\/1-CIMIGkOWsAAFmCT.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1176 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/integrating-reshaping-care\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2015\/07\/1-CIMIGkOWsAAFmCT-300x210.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"210\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/health-social-care\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2015\/07\/1-CIMIGkOWsAAFmCT-300x210.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/health-social-care\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2015\/07\/1-CIMIGkOWsAAFmCT.jpg 499w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/210;\" \/><\/a>John Swinney, Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Constitution and Economy closed the event on day two and said that across the country, we needed to be listening more to what people need and want from health and social care.<\/p>\n<p>Geoff Huggins, Director for Health and Social Care Integration, highlighted the challenges and the opportunities that integration presents and called for delegates to become \u201cData Cosmologists\u201d. Data Cosmology is the \u201cstudy\u201d of data which helps us to build a bigger picture\u00a0and understand the lived experience of service users, as opposed to evaluating one or two services that an individual receives. Geoff concluded by reinforcing that, \u201cbehind the word \u2018integration\u2019, are real people who need our help\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Our Integration Hub in the exhibition hall was host to a range of interactive activities over the two days and you couldn\u2019t miss our integration hub team who were kitted out in our branded integration t-shirts.<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/integrating-reshaping-care\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2015\/07\/1-Alison-Frances.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1175 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/integrating-reshaping-care\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2015\/07\/1-Alison-Frances.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"251\" height=\"300\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 251px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 251\/300;\" \/><\/a>The \u2018On the Couch\u2019 sessions put service users and carers in the spotlight and gave them a platform to talk about their personal accounts of health and social care which were heartfelt and honest. One of our guests on the couch was Tommy Whitelaw who talked about caring for his late mother and\u00a0his mission to\u00a0raise awareness of dementia.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0\u2018Voicebanking\u2019 booth showcased the fascinating work being undertaken by the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary (Anne Rowling) Research Regenerative Neurology Clinic\u00a0and project, the aim of which is to create personalised synthetic voices for people who can no longer use their own voices. At the end of the event our Activity Wall was filled with an array of comments, remarks and feedback from delegates.<\/p>\n<p>We were delighted to have Richard Humphries from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kingsfund.org.uk\/topics\/integrated-care\">Kings Fund<\/a>\u00a0present in our parallel session \u2018What is the Evidence for Integration?\u2019 Richard gave a thought-provoking account of what the UK evidence base tells us about how we can achieve better outcomes through integration.
