My goal: sending you off with a perfect stranger, to embark on a stimulating journey out of the ordinary.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/integrating-reshaping-care\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2015\/10\/Emily.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1775 size-full alignright lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/integrating-reshaping-care\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2015\/10\/Emily.jpg\" width=\"338\" height=\"438\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/health-social-care\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2015\/10\/Emily.jpg 338w, https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/health-social-care\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2015\/10\/Emily-232x300.jpg 232w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 338px) 100vw, 338px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 338px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 338\/438;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Of course all of this is strictly professional.<\/p>\n<p>I co-ordinate the well-established Leadership Exchange Programme, a partnership initiative across sectors which offers colleagues the opportunity to see the world through somebody else\u2019s eyes: to meet a peer from a different sector and accompany them to their respective workplace, in order to share a range of work activities which will help them improve their mutual understanding of each other\u2019s work.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>\u201cWorking and learning together, we really can make a difference\u201d (Hilda Campbell, CEO of COPE Scotland)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Looking back at 160 leaders from public, third, and private sectors paired in Leadership Exchanges, I am now really keen to offer this specifically to colleagues working in health and social care. The ability to collaborate beyond traditional sector boundaries will be crucial to make health and social care integration a success.<\/p>\n<p>Leadership Exchange provides the framework for leaders to learn from and about each other. We make the connection between exchange partners and offer support along the way \u2013 but once matched, the exchange partners are able to plan according to their own learning goals and diaries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1777 size-full lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/integrating-reshaping-care\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2015\/10\/Leadership-exchange-JPEG.jpg\" width=\"884\" height=\"460\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/health-social-care\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2015\/10\/Leadership-exchange-JPEG.jpg 884w, https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/health-social-care\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2015\/10\/Leadership-exchange-JPEG-300x156.jpg 300w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 884px) 100vw, 884px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 884px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 884\/460;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Dr Anne Hendry, National Clinical Lead for Integrated Care at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.jitscotland.org.uk\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Joint Improvement Team<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and Scottish Government and Hilda Campbell, CEO of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cope-scotland.org\/index.php\">COPE Scotland<\/a>, a Glasgow-based health charity which provides a range of services to individuals and groups, were among the first integration-related exchange teams paired in 2014 (pictured above).<\/p>\n<p>One year later, I met with Anne and Hilda to hear how it\u2019s been.<\/p>\n<p>Anne\u2019s and Hilda\u2019s organisations \u2013 the national government and a small community-led organisation \u2013 couldn\u2019t be more different in size, culture, and decision-making structure. And yet some of the challenges turned out to be very similar.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>\u201cEverybody has an opportunity to benefit from a Leadership Exchange\u201d (Dr Anne Hendry, JIT\/Scottish Government)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After a few introductory e-mails, Anne and Hilda met up for a coffee and an open chat. Invitations to each other\u2019s events, collaboration on a number of pieces of work, and increased confidence as leaders are just some of the benefits they got out of their exchange.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had a common vision around improving individual\u2019s well-being and building links between services which could support this\u201d, says Hilda and adds: \u201cOur understanding of the challenges our statutory colleagues face has improved, and this helps us understand how we can better work together in a spirit of co-operation and respect.\u201d Anne is also pleased that she participated in the programme. One of the things that particularly intrigued Anne was the the creative and agile way in which COPE manages access to services \u2013 for example the fact that they have no waiting lists: \u201cI want to find out how they do it!\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><strong>\u00a0Your match starts here<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To participate in Leadership Exchange, you don\u2019t have to be a chief executive or even a manager. If you demonstrate leadership in your work and want to make a real difference, you are welcome to <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20161201104314\/http:\/\/www.acosvo.org.uk\/leadership-exchange-programme-application\">apply<\/a>. You will develop your leadership skills, understanding, and the ability to work collaboratively.
