There have been a number of initiatives to deliver joint working over the past 12 years, so our members not only have first-hand experience in this area, they also have invaluable views on how it can effectively be delivered.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unison-scotland.org.uk\/\">UNISON Scotland<\/a> \u2013 the largest trade union in the health and social care sector &#8211; undertook a survey of health and social care staff to get their views on integration. Throughout the survey members indicated that, while the legislation and its provisions are supported in principle, there are serious concerns about lack of resources, the impact of cuts in resources and the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/integrating-reshaping-care\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2014\/10\/unison.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-478 alignright lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/integrating-reshaping-care\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2014\/10\/unison-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"123\" height=\"131\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 123px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 123\/131;\" \/><\/a>potential quality of services going forward.<\/p>\n<p>Views included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u2018Care in the community is being compromised by lack of adequate resources and people are being left without adequate support.\u2019<\/li>\n<li>\u2018Cuts are being made in the wrong places and affecting the most vulnerable people.\u2019<\/li>\n<li>\u2018It [the success of health and care integration] all depends on how things are put in place and who is managing these changes. Done properly, it can be a positive change but I\u2019m concerned they won\u2019t involve front line staff in decisions.\u2019<\/li>\n<li>\u2018Decisions are being made higher up, with people not realising how they will affect patients and staff on the ground.\u2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The reality is that if health and care integration in Scotland is to succeed, it needs to focus more on the people who deliver care than structures.
