Making Maths Count

World Maths Day at Victoria Primary School in Falkirk

It’s World Maths Day on Wednesday 7 March and Victoria Primary School in Falkirk have an amazing programme in place. They plan as a whole school to make this a huge day for celebrating maths with a range of activities.

A number of speakers from different companies will be coming to the school to speak to the children from P4-P7 including:

  • John Shanks from Scottish Water
  • Najeeb Kabawa from Aecom

Stem Ambassadors:
Dave Craig with his company Mysterious Maths
George O’Connell with his company Shape with a Difference

They also have a number of people coming from Forth Valley College and family members who are coming to assist with maths activities happening in school and some are speaking to the children about their jobs.

Ibike are offering a bike breakfast for children and parents and during this time, there will be a Parent vs Child maths quiz. They’re also bringing in smoothie bikes where the children can make their own smoothies, doing some maths-related questions, pedalling to make the smoothies. Ibike are also going to be accompanying the children on a cycle to the Kelpies where they will be answering maths-related questions on the way.

Tesco have kindly donated a number of Easter eggs that will be given out as prizes for the day.

There will be Maths trails run for the children in P1-P3. Some children will have the opportunity to bake, creating maths-inspired cupcakes. The children and staff are coming dressed in maths outfits. There will also be a Parent vs Child quiz and a Children vs Teacher quiz.
