{"id":12182,"date":"2021-03-12T11:00:33","date_gmt":"2021-03-12T11:00:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/marine-scotland\/?p=12182"},"modified":"2021-03-12T12:21:34","modified_gmt":"2021-03-12T12:21:34","slug":"guidance-for-anglers-during-coronavirus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/marine-scotland\/2021\/03\/12\/guidance-for-anglers-during-coronavirus\/","title":{"rendered":"Guidance for anglers during Coronavirus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The First Minister has announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.scot\/news\/scotland-in-lockdown\/\">further action to stem the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Following the announcement the Scottish Government introduced, from midnight on 5 January, a legal requirement to stay at home except for essential purposes. This is similar to the lockdown of March 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The First Minister acknowledged that it is important for physical and mental well-being that we can get outdoors for fresh air and exercise as much as possible.\u00a0 Given this, local outdoor recreation, sport or exercise is to be considered an appropriate reason for leaving home.\u00a0 Unlike the lockdown last year, the frequency of outdoor exercise is not being limited.<\/p>\n<p>Outdoor non-contact activities such as walking, cycling and golf are permitted for all age groups.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Angling is also permissible<\/strong> provided this is within a single household group, or the group contains no more than 4 people from 2 different households.\u00a0 Children under the age of 12 from these households do not count towards this number.<\/p>\n<p>You can travel for local outdoor sport or exercise such as angling but must stay within the more general requirements with regard to travel and ensure that you abide by the rules on meeting other households.\u00a0 In general, stay as close to home as possible \u2013 within your local authority, or no more than 5 miles from the boundary &#8211; and stay away from crowded places.<\/p>\n<p>Individuals should continue to follow the five principles behind the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.scot\/coronavirus-covid-19\/\"> Scottish Government&#8217;s FACTS campaign<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>F &#8211; wear a Face covering<\/li>\n<li>A &#8211; Avoid crowded places<\/li>\n<li>C &#8211; Clean hands and surfaces regularly<\/li>\n<li>T &#8211; stay Two metre distance away from other people<\/li>\n<li>S &#8211; Self-isolate and book a test if you have COVID-19 symptoms (new continuous cough, fever or loss of, or change in, sense of smell or taste)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Detailed guidance on safe conduct while angling is available on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.anglingscotland.org.uk\/covid-19-advise-when-we-get-back-to-fishing\/\">Angling Scotland <\/a>website and from <a href=\"http:\/\/fms.scot\/coronavirus-covid-19\/\">Fisheries Management Scotland.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Club competitions, outings etc<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Angling activity should be restricted to individuals, household groups or no more than 4 people from 2 households, suitably distanced.<\/p>\n<p><strong>From Friday 12 March<\/strong>, outdoor non-contact sports and organised group exercise will be permitted for all adults, in groups of up to 15 people. \u00a0This will include gatherings for fishing competitions, subject to all other arrangements in place regarding travel, suitable distancing, etc.\u00a0 Club outings or group meetings, etc are not yet permitted under the current restrictions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sea angling<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sea angling from the shore is allowed, provided that anglers comply with the more general requirements with regard to travel and the rules on meeting other households.<\/p>\n<p>Sea angling from private boats with members of your own household is also allowed.<\/p>\n<p>Again, sea angling should be practised as close to home as possible and no more than 5 miles beyond your local authority boundary.<\/p>\n<p>Angling from charter boats is not currently permitted.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Travelling from other parts of the UK to fish in Scotland<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is not allowed under current rules in Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, all holiday accommodation is closed to tourism.
