The East Coast Scallop Survey for 2014 is well underway, having set sail on the 6th<\/sup> of June.<\/p>\n

Overview of survey:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Scallop dredge hauls will be made at sites used on previous surveys and other known commercial grounds as shown below.\u00a0 Hauls will be of 30 minutes duration.\u00a0 From each haul, all of the scallops will be measured to the half centimeter below and aged.\u00a0 Numbers and size distribution of commercial fish and shellfish species will be recorded along with scallop shell damage and starfish numbers and species.\u00a0 From selected sites, scallop ring measurements shall be taken along with scallop meat weight information.\u00a0 In addition to this, tissue samples will be collected from selected sites and frozen for toxin analysis back at the laboratory.<\/p>\n

  1. \u00a0To carry out a survey of scallop stocks on the East Coast.<\/li>\n
  2. \u00a0To assess shell damage on all scallops caught.<\/li>\n
  3. \u00a0To collect information on by-catch of other commercial fish and shellfish species.<\/li>\n
  4. \u00a0To identify and quantify numbers of starfish species in all dredge tows.<\/li>\n
  5. \u00a0To collect data on scallop ring measurements.<\/li>\n
  6. \u00a0To collect scallop meat weight biological data.<\/li>\n
  7. \u00a0To collect flesh samples for toxin analysis back at the laboratory.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
