{"id":2764,"date":"2015-02-03T12:32:49","date_gmt":"2015-02-03T12:32:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.scotland.gov.uk\/coastal-monitoring\/?p=2764"},"modified":"2018-04-13T10:05:35","modified_gmt":"2018-04-13T09:05:35","slug":"experts-to-look-at-ways-of-accelerating-the-approval-of-offshore-energy-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/marine-scotland\/2015\/02\/03\/experts-to-look-at-ways-of-accelerating-the-approval-of-offshore-energy-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"Experts to look at ways of accelerating the approval of offshore energy projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Marine Scotland Science\u00a0is currently involved in a new project to accelerate and streamline the environmental requirements associated with consents for offshore wind, wave and tidal projects.<\/p>\n<p>The RiCORE project, led by the Robert Gordon University (Scotland) and including teams from Ireland, Spain, Portugal, France and Scotland, has been awarded \u20ac1.4 million from the European Commission\u2019s competitive <a href=\"http:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/programmes\/horizon2020\/\">Horizon 2020<\/a> programme to tackle one of the key barriers to the deployment of offshore energy &#8211; consenting and environmental impacts.<\/p>\n<p>The project came out of an agreed desire to improve the way that small scale wave and tidal developments are consented and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scotland.gov.uk\/Topics\/marine\/science\/Researchers\/ianmdavies\">Dr. Ian Davies<\/a> from Marine Scotland Science said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe aim is to develop risk profiles based on a number of environmental and technical factors such as the scale of the project, the type of device, whether or not it is an existing technology &#8211; and the environmental sensitivity of the marine environment.
