The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) has launched the results of their Great British Beach Clean, which took place from 19th \u2013 22nd September 2014. A record number of more than 5,300 volunteers took part, across more than 300 events nationally and the results can be downloaded\u00a0from the MCS website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

If you would like to take part in this year\u2019s beach clean and survey, taking place from 19th<\/sup> – 22nd<\/sup> September, register your interest on the MCS website .

So\"Colin<\/a>me of the staff at Marine Scotland in Aberdeen have been doing their own beach clean-ups during their lunch breaks, where they have been\u00a0clearing\u00a0marine litter from the shoreline of Torry, nearest to the Marine Laboratory.\"Marine<\/a><\/p>\n

Since the first lunchtime collection in January, they have ventured out in the rain, cold and occassional sunny day and have collected and recycled at least 1,427 bottles and cans, and collected twenty bin-bags full of rubbish and many large objects.<\/p>\n

Da\"Marine<\/a>nny Pendrey who started the clean-ups said “We have been heartened by seeing the areas we have cleared have stayed relatively clear of rubbish since they were first cleaned-up mid-January and we hope to clear the shore along to the lighthouse by this summer – and then keep it clean. It\u2019s also been good exercise and feels very satisfying to be doing something to help clean up our seas.”<\/p>\n
