{"id":2947,"date":"2015-03-27T14:21:48","date_gmt":"2015-03-27T14:21:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.scotland.gov.uk\/coastal-monitoring\/?p=2947"},"modified":"2018-04-13T09:53:38","modified_gmt":"2018-04-13T08:53:38","slug":"mrv-alba-na-mara-survey-0415a-programme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/marine-scotland\/2015\/03\/27\/mrv-alba-na-mara-survey-0415a-programme\/","title":{"rendered":"MRV Alba na Mara: Survey 0415A Programme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Duration:<\/strong> 29 March \u2013 17 April 2015<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fishing Gear:<\/strong> Scallop dredges<\/p>\n<p><strong>Objectives:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0To carry out a survey of scallop stocks on the West Coast;<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0To assess shell damage on all scallops caught;<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0To collect information on by-catch of other commercial fish and shellfish species;<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0To identify and quantify numbers of starfish species in all dredge tows;<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0To collect data on scallop ring measurements;<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0To collect scallop meat weight biological data; and<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0To collect flesh samples for toxin analysis back at the laboratory.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Procedure:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Scallop dredge hauls will be made at sites used on previous surveys and other known commercial grounds as shown Figure 1. Hauls will be of 30 minutes duration. From each haul all of the scallops will be measured to the half centimeter below and aged. Numbers and size distribution of commercial fish and shellfish species will be recorded along with scallop shell damage and starfish numbers and species. From selected sites, scallop ring measurements shall be taken along with scallop meat weight information.
