The clear up operation\u00a0went as far as the first jetty starting from below Inverdee House.<\/p>\n<p>Litter leader Danny Pendrey said \u201cToday\u2019s waste collection was not pleasant \u2013 nappies, clothing, household waste and so on but nevertheless it\u2019s heartening to have some of the area cleared and another team may be heading out\u00a0before\u00a0next week\u00a0to get us back on track, after recent setbacks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The latest collection details are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Total person effort collecting was 1,200 minutes<\/li>\n<li>16 bags of general waste<\/li>\n<li>12 bags of recyclables \u2013 243 cans and 352 bottles<\/li>\n<li>1.5 bags of fishing gear<\/li>\n<li>2 steel barriers<\/li>\n<li>1 large section of Perspex roofing sheet<\/li>\n<li>1 very large bright orange buoy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This makes the running total (since mid-March 2015):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0<strong>Person effort 1,960 minutes<\/strong> (or about 33 hours) spent collecting (Note &#8211; The true total time will be closer to double this figure if we include getting there, sorting etc)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Total number of people collecting 34<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Assisted by <strong>3 dogs<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Bin-bags of general rubbish<\/strong> <strong>40<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Recycled bottles and cans<\/strong> <strong>2,148<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Other things include \u2013 1 hypodermic needle, 3 car tyres, 13 traffic cones, 2 steel barriers, 1.5 bags of fishing gear, 1 large roofing sheet and 1 large buoy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Their\u00a0combined efforts are starting to make a difference (see picture below courtesy of Tim Poole at SEPA) but there is\u00a0a bit to go they\u00a0have not yet gone past the wee sandy beach past the \u201cfirst\u201d jetty.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll keep you posted on their developments and next week,\u00a0we&#8217;ll be taking some film footage of\u00a0the clean up\u00a0efforts, so keep a close eye on our Blog for further updates and potential film stars in the making!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related Information<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Read about the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcsuk.org\/\">Marine Conservation Society\u2019s (MCS)<\/a> Great British Beach Clean, and our subsequent attempts to clean up our seas for good in our \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/marine-scotland\/2015\/03\/19\/lifes-a-clean-beach\/\">Life\u2019s a (clean) beach!<\/a>\u201d post of 19 March.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Early in March, we told you about some of the fantastic work that colleagues in our Lab in Aberdeen have been doing to keep the beaches at Torry clean.
