The projects is being\u00a0developed in\u00a0phases and\u00a0Phase 1a\u00a0will involve the deployment of 4 tidal turbines resulting in an overall capacity of 6 MW.<\/p>\n<p>On 12 September, there was an Inauguration Ceremony at Nigg Energy\u00a0park where the turbines and turbine support structures are being assembled prior to deployment. The First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, unveiled a commemoration plaque on the quayside where the first fully assembled turbine and its support structure were\u00a0being held, ready to be moved onto site.\u00a0Guests who attended included members of staff from Marine Scotland Licencing Operations Team and Marine Scotland Science Renewable Energy Environmental Advice Group.<\/p>\n<p>Various research studies are being carried out at the site. These are co-ordinated by an Advisory Group which is under external chairmanship, and they include a two year Knowledge Transfer Partnership project between MeyGen and the University of Aberdeen to develop and deploy a system to study how wildlife interacts with the turbines, and a Scottish Government Demonstration Project being progressed in partnership with\u00a0the University of St Andrews Sea Mammal Research Unit.<\/p>\n<p>Marine Scotland Licensing Operations Team (MS-LOT) are currently working with MeyGen to discharge their post consent plans and consent conditions.
