Last week, the MarCRF project CORPORATES<\/a> which includes researchers from Marine Scotland,\u00a0was presented at the 2nd<\/sup> Baltic Sea Maritime Spatial Planning Forum, in Riga, Latvia. The conference focused on marine planning in the Baltic Sea, particularly how to plan across countries borders. VASAB and ICES organised the conference, which served as the Baltic SCOPE project\u2019s final conference, where project results were shared with an interested audience. There were more than 250 participants from 32 countries, including Scotland.<\/p>\n

Past MarCRF Fellow and Marine Scotland colleague,\u00a0Jacqui Tweddle,<\/a> spoke at the workshop\u00a0\u201cWhat are the research needs for planning in the 21st<\/sup> century?\u201d where her session on \u201cSupporting marine management from the bottom up\u201d, looked at that question from both the point of view of a natural scientist – physics and phytoplankton as drivers of the biological system and ecosystem services – and a marine spatial planner, where bottom-up means involving stakeholders in management and planning processes, which is what the CORPORATES project worked on.<\/p>\n
