{"id":6542,"date":"2016-12-23T13:20:19","date_gmt":"2016-12-23T13:20:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/marine-scotland\/?p=6542"},"modified":"2019-04-04T11:36:30","modified_gmt":"2019-04-04T10:36:30","slug":"a-very-fortunate-find","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/marine-scotland\/2016\/12\/23\/a-very-fortunate-find\/","title":{"rendered":"A Very Fortunate Find"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Recently, as part of the East Coast Marine Mammal Acoustic Study (ECOMMAS), some colleagues were out on the research vessel <em>Alba na Mara<\/em> to retrieve acoustic detectors; devices deployed and retrieved which help to build a picture of dolphin and porpoise population distribution.<\/p>\n<p>During the trip they searched for one particular mooring, approximately 5 km east of Stonehaven, for over an hour but unfortunately couldn\u2019t find the mooring buoy with the 70 cm, 4 kg device attached. However, as luck would have it the very next day, a Marine Scotland Science Oceanographer found the missing cetacean detector on the shore at Aberdeen harbour mouth, whilst walking her dog.
