Professor Colin Moffat and the President of Mozambique, HE Armando Emilio Guebuza<\/p><\/div>\n

Marine Scotland Science<\/a> had a very important visitor at its Marine Laboratory in Aberdeen this morning.<\/p>\n

The President of Mozambique, HE Armando Emilio Guebuza, was given a tour round the state-of-the-art facilities by Marine Scotland\u2019s Head of Science, Professor Colin Moffat.<\/p>\n

During the visit, the President\u00a0explained\u00a0more about\u00a0the freshwater aquaculture industry and the deep water fisheries that exist off the Mozambique coast.\u00a0Marine Scotland\u00a0scientists Bill Turrell and Nick Bailey\u00a0spoke about Scottish fisheries, including\u00a0human pressures and\u00a0the current research and monitoring\u00a0that is being undertaken in Scotland.<\/p>\n

Professor Colin Moffat said:<\/p>\n

“Fish and shellfish are wonderful food products recognised world-wide for their nutritional value, providing a valuable source of protein. At the same time, we use our seas for many other reasons and have exploited our fisheries, in some cases, to critical levels. Sharing of measures to conserve fisheries and develop an ecosystem approach to the management of our seas is a global aspiration and we were very pleased to have this opportunity to discuss such issues with the President of Mozambique as well as laying the foundation for possible future collaboration between scientists from both countries.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
