This meeting introduced us to the whole concept of public finances and went into depth about all the different ways the government spends their money.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Civil servants in the Scottish Exchequer made presentations about it and also handed out booklets and leaflets describing the subject. After we had a deeper understanding we were asked, in groups, to give our opinions on how the government spend their money.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Everyone really enjoyed this opportunity as they felt as though their opinion mattered and they could say how they felt\u00a0.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At the beginning of September three of us were given the opportunity to go to the Scottish Parliament and meet with the Minister for Public Finance and Digital Economy, Kate Forbes.<span style=\"float: none;background-color: #ffffff;color: #333333;cursor: text;font-family: Georgia,'Times New Roman','Bitstream Charter',Times,serif;font-size: 16px;font-style: normal;font-variant: normal;font-weight: 400;letter-spacing: normal;text-align: left;text-decoration: none;text-indent: 0px;text-transform: none\">\u275e<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Delighted to meet with @KateForbesMSP to launch the Understanding Scotland&#39;s Finances report!<\/p>\n<p>Supported by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/scotgoveconomy?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@scotgoveconomy<\/a> and Young Scot young people have been exploring public finances, priority spend and key messages to understand public finance more.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/97VJKklGxh\">https:\/\/t.co\/97VJKklGxh<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Young Scot (@YoungScot) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/YoungScot\/status\/1172096475729485825?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 12, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"float: none;background-color: #ffffff;color: #333333;cursor: text;font-family: Georgia,'Times New Roman','Bitstream Charter',Times,serif;font-size: 16px;font-style: normal;font-variant: normal;font-weight: 400;letter-spacing: normal;text-align: left;text-decoration: none;text-indent: 0px;text-transform: none\">\u275d<\/span>The meeting lasted only half an hour, but we all felt as though Kate took into consideration what we said, and she agreed with our opinions.
