where has the time gone? \u00a0The Digital Engagement team was put in place for 12 months to meet three main objectives:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">Improve the way we carry out consultations by using a digital platform and providing advice and guidance;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">develop digital capability through guidance, workshops and seminars; and<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">carry out digital experiments to formulate best practice.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">We\u2019ve come a long way since we launched in December. \u00a0Trying to navigate the complexities of Scottish Government and promote ourselves across the organisation, we&#8217;ve had somewhat of an uphill battle. \u00a0Previous posts highlight the environment that we\u2019re in and some of the frustrations. \u00a0In the beginning we were reaching out to policy teams looking for ways to support them. \u00a0Now it&#8217;s a struggle to keep up with all the meetings and requests! \u00a0Although, we&#8217;re not complaining, it&#8217;s a good problem to have.<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">We\u2019ve worked hard and enjoyed it (at least I can say it\u2019s been fun!). \u00a0Having the opportunity to learn about all sorts of policies and interesting subjects &#8211; issues ranging from management measures for crab and lobster landings in Orkney to asking questions about open data to large and complex questions around social justice.<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">Since our launch, we have made <a title=\"Citizen Space\" href=\"https:\/\/consult.scotland.gov.uk\/\">Citizen Space<\/a>\u00a0the default for consultations &#8211; having published numerous consultations via our digital\u00a0platform.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/digital-engagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2015\/06\/CitizenSpaceHome.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-128 size-full lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/digital-engagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2015\/06\/CitizenSpaceHome.jpg\" width=\"768\" height=\"751\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/participation\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2015\/06\/CitizenSpaceHome.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/participation\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2015\/06\/CitizenSpaceHome-300x293.jpg 300w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 768px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 768\/751;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">To address digital capability, we&#8217;ve run a number of workshops on social reporting, community management, developing a digital engagement strategy and identifying barriers to social media engagement. \u00a0The insights that we have gained have been invaluable and have helped us tailor our approach. \u00a0Things are beginning to take off and we\u2019re eager to see what we can do in the coming months. \u00a0<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">We\u2019ve helped social report on a number of events, promote public participation in policymaking, provided best practice and advice to countless policy teams and are continuing to look for ways to increase Scottish Government\u2019s openness and transparency. \u00a0We are not only working with policy teams to help engage better, we\u2019re also working with a range of colleagues to explore how we can join up efforts and support each other. \u00a0In addition, we&#8217;ve been actively participating in a number of internal workshops. \u00a0Our colleagues are facing similar challenges and we&#8217;re keen to join up with them to face these head on. \u00a0Trying to address culture change requires a collective effort. \u00a0A favourite quote of mine is &#8220;culture eats strategy for breakfast&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/digital-engagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2015\/06\/tweet.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-131 size-full lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/digital-engagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2015\/06\/tweet.jpg\" width=\"458\" height=\"570\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/participation\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2015\/06\/tweet.jpg 458w, https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/participation\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2015\/06\/tweet-241x300.jpg 241w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 458px) 100vw, 458px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 458px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 458\/570;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">We\u2019re working to transform the way that Scottish Government engages. \u00a0As Leah has previously highlighted, there are challenges that we have encountered and continue to face. \u00a0However, in the six short months since we\u2019ve come together we have made a lot of progress. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">So what&#8217;s next?<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Well, we have a number of ongoing projects. \u00a0Today, in collaboration with our colleagues, we launched\u00a0<a title=\"Fairer Scotland\" href=\"http:\/\/fairer.scot\/\">fairer.scot<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; a blog dedicated to receiving input on what a fairer Scotland should look like. \u00a0(Watch this space for more about Fairer Scotland.) <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Additionally, the\u00a0Open Data Dialogue\u00a0is running and receiving great input.<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">We&#8217;ll continue to work towards our goals and challenging our colleagues. \u00a0The coming months provide an exciting time with many great projects to look forward to. \u00a0We&#8217;ll keep you updated! \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We\u2019ve come a long way since we launched in December.
