{"id":1367,"date":"2022-11-14T12:57:30","date_gmt":"2022-11-14T12:57:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/participation\/?p=1367"},"modified":"2022-11-17T11:29:53","modified_gmt":"2022-11-17T11:29:53","slug":"countdown-to-world-childrens-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/participation\/2022\/11\/14\/countdown-to-world-childrens-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Countdown to World Children\u2019s Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Through a series of blog posts this week we mark the countdown to World Children\u2019s Day on Sunday 20 November!<\/p>\n<h3>Reflecting, connecting and looking forward<\/h3>\n<p>This World Children\u2019s Day we (the Empowered Children and Young People\u2019s Team) reflect on our key achievements over the past year in supporting children and young people to meaningfully participate in the work of the Children and Families Directorate:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>we celebrate our partnerships with like-minded individuals across a variety of organisations who are passionate about amplifying the voices of children and young people and making Article 12 a reality in their lives<\/li>\n<li>we recognise our contribution to knowledge development amongst our colleagues and stakeholders and how we have learned from, and been inspired by, others<\/li>\n<li>we are thankful to everyone we work in partnership with to promote and embed children\u2019s rights, especially children and young people themselves<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Empowered Children and Young People\u2019s Team look forward to continuing to work with others to make Scotland a better place for everyone.<\/p>\n<p>Some examples of important work that has taken place over the last year are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Our work with Together (Scottish Alliance for Children\u2019s Rights) to support children and young people\u2019s meaningful participation in United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) implementation &#8211; read the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.togetherscotland.org.uk\/media\/3092\/rrn19052022.pdf\">Rights Right Now! Report 2022<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The Annual Cabinet meeting with representatives from the Children\u2019s Parliament and Scottish Youth Parliament and enables children and young people to raise and agree actions on issues that matter most to them and their peers &#8211; read the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.scot\/publications\/annual-cabinet-meeting-with-children-and-young-people-sixth-meeting-1-march-2022\/\">commitments agreed<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>World Children&#8217;s Day<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unicef.org\/world-childrens-day\">World Children\u2019s Day<\/a> is UNICEF\u2019s annual day of action for children, by children. It takes place on the 20<sup>th<\/sup> November each year and is an important day to highlight and celebrate the empowerment of children and young people and plan how we can all work together to create a better future for everyone.<\/p>\n<p>On World Children\u2019s Day we mark the commitment made by world leaders through their adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC)! Access a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unicef.org\/media\/60981\/file\/convention-rights-child-text-child-friendly-version.pdf\">child-friendly version of the UNCRC.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Young people aged 13-24 years are invited to sign up to UNICEF\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voicesofyouth.org\">Voices of Youth<\/a> to express and share their views on matters that are important to them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voicesofyouth.org\/\">Voices of Youth<\/a> is a digital community for young people by young people. The site provides access to information on a range of topics that are important to young people and provides tools to support young people to express their views. Through the creation and sharing of blogs, poems, illustrations, photography and videos Voices of Youth amplifies the voices of young people in a bid to tell the world about issues that they care about.<\/p>\n<p>There is also an option to share quick flashes of positivity and inspire other young people by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voicesofyouth.org\/inspire\">igniting a spark<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We encourage all those who are passionate about supporting young people to express their views to raise awareness of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voicesofyouth.org\/\">Voices of Youth<\/a> and support young people\u2019s engagement with this platform.
