Publication of the first Programme for Government
September 7, 2016 by planningarchitecture No Comments | Category home, Planning
Yesterday marked the publication of the first Programme for Government (PfG) of the new parliament. This sets out the legislative programme and how we will deliver our wider ambitions including driving inclusive economic growth and empowering communities.
The PfG emphasises the critical role of the planning system in supporting continued growth and investment, and creating great places as part of our commitment to make the planning system work for everyone. We are now committed to bringing forward a Planning Bill early in the Parliamentary session and intend to publish a White paper by the end of 2016.
We will also implement the recommendation for Simplified Planning zones to help attract investment and promote housing delivery. Interim measures will be introduced to modernise compulsory purchase orders in advance of legislation to ensure that vacant and derelict land can be brought into use for communities.
We will be collaborating with stakeholders throughout the process including through the working groups which will be convened for the first time on 12 September 2016.
