The upgrade will help secure the long term future of the service and enable expansion into other online services, including building standards later this year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/planning-architecture\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2016\/01\/e_Build_Scot_RED-reduced-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1734 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/planning-architecture\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2016\/01\/e_Build_Scot_RED-reduced-300x75-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"75\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/75;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The portal could see savings of around \u00a3241 per application for applicants and agents, and \u00a3110 per application for local planning authorities, compared to paper applications.<\/p>\n<p>Social Justice Secretary Alex Neil said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cePlanning is in its seventh year, and over the past six years we\u2019ve seen the portal save almost \u00a340m for local authorities and applicants.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have made great progress since the portal was first introduced in 2009, with 70 per cent of planning applications now made online \u2013 double the original forecast. The new service will continue to provide access to the planning system in a way customers want, delivering a high quality consistent service, saving time and money.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mary Stewart, from Fife Council planning division, said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the past six years the ePlanning portal has brought significant benefits for users of Fife\u2019s planning service by making it cheaper, easier and quicker to submit planning applications. Fife is keen to embrace the improvements and additional functions the new portal will bring, and to work with all of our customers to ensure they maximise these benefits.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>David Blaikie, of David Blaikie Architects, said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe architectural industry now operates virtually exclusively in the digital world, with all of the efficiencies in information production and communications it has to offer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is therefore important that agencies and the profession interacts and follows this lead to extend these efficiencies into the wider industry. ePlanning has led the way and as a practice, we find the service easy and effective to use. We look forward to the introduction of the new service, which will continue and improve this service providing greater efficiencies for applicants and agents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/planning-architecture\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2016\/01\/cut-away-house-1.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eplanning.scot\">ePlanning.scot<\/a> service will also include new mapping tools, as well as additional forms and greater administration rights for each local authority to allow better management of applications.
