Sustainable Procurement Tools – what’s new?

May 27, 2025 by No Comments | Category Procurement news, Scottish Procurement

Since their launch in June 2020, we have continuously reviewed and updated our National Sustainable Procurement Tools website to help public bodies to maximise the value achieved from procurement and to aid compliance with national procurement legislation.

At the end of March 2025 alongside the 172 Scottish public sector bodies that are registered users of the tools, we are delighted that the tools are also proving useful to public and private organisations in other parts of the UK and further afield. We now have over 3350 users across 528 organisations.

In response to user feedback, several developments have recently been made to the website.

Updated Fair and ethically traded guidance

The Fair and ethically traded worker conditions guidance has been updated with the help of Scottish Fair Trade to include a section highlighting the importance of certified Fair Trade products and how organisations can help support the collection of consistent spend data through their procurement spend reports.

Senior Leaders eLearning

Our most recent eLearning emphasises senior leaders’ key role in enabling essential outcomes through procurement, grants, and other funding.

Restrict user access functionality

Organisations have greater control of their own instance and have discretion to decide the appropriate access for their users to the tools (Flexible Framework, Prioritisation Tool, and Sustainability Test).

There will be minimum immediate impact for existing users who retain access to the tools, and there is no change to accessing other materials on the website.

Local administrators can now:

  • set default access for the organisation
  • grant or revoke access to the tools for individual users

A user guide has been published to support local administrators.

To access all the tools available, register on the Sustainable Procurement Tools website.

Any enquiries regarding the sustainable procurement tools website including registration and account activation should be directed to the site administrators at: scottishprocurement@gov.scot
