{"id":55,"date":"2017-08-18T14:56:17","date_gmt":"2017-08-18T13:56:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/public-procurement\/?p=55"},"modified":"2017-08-18T14:56:17","modified_gmt":"2017-08-18T13:56:17","slug":"cips-west-of-scotland-branch-nominated-for-two-supply-management-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/public-procurement\/2017\/08\/18\/cips-west-of-scotland-branch-nominated-for-two-supply-management-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"CIPS West of Scotland branch nominated for two Supply Management Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) West of Scotland branch has become the first to be nominated for a Supply Management (SM) Award, being shortlisted in two categories. The branch recently set up the Emergent Professionals network and is in the running for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Best Contribution to the Reputation of the Profession, and<\/li>\n<li>Best Third Sector \/ Not-for-profit Procurement Project<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>The Negotiation Challenge<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The recent nominations recognise the success of the Negotiation Challenge \u2013 an interactive simulation game where university students participate in live negotiation with a number of \u2018suppliers\u2019 (Emergent Professionals who volunteer to participate) while obtaining live feedback from \u2018observers\u2019 (experienced procurement professionals) about style, strategy and tactics. The challenge currently focuses on Glasgow Caledonian University but work is underway on an inter-university version of the challenge for students across Scotland.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>The Procurement People of Tomorrow legacy<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>A cross-sector, collaborative project, the Emergent Professionals network includes volunteers from the Department for International Development and EDF Energy and complements <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gov.scot\/Topics\/Government\/Procurement\/Capability\/procpploftomo2014\">Procurement People of Tomorrow<\/a> (PPoT). Rachael Hughes, from Scottish Procurement and the West of Scotland CIPS branch, said:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The network has been set up to support emergent professionals, in terms of giving opportunities for knowledge enhancement and expanding a professional network. This follows on from the PPoT initiative which is actively promoting procurement in schools right through to supporting new entrants in the first five years of their career.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>To Andrew Crawford, Chair of the West of Scotland CIPS Branch, there is no question that Emergent Professionals will benefit from PPoT:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;PPoT is unique, fertile and something we should be very proud of in Scotland.
