{"id":6082,"date":"2025-05-29T08:38:10","date_gmt":"2025-05-29T07:38:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/public-procurement\/?p=6082"},"modified":"2025-05-29T08:38:10","modified_gmt":"2025-05-29T07:38:10","slug":"reserving-contracts-for-supported-businesses-sppn-1-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/public-procurement\/2025\/05\/29\/reserving-contracts-for-supported-businesses-sppn-1-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Reserving contracts for supported businesses &#8211; SPPN 1\/2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In April 2025, the Scottish Government published updated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.procurementjourney.scot\/additional-resources\/sustainable-procurement\">Guidance for Public Sector Buyers for the Purchase of Goods and Services from Supported Businesses<\/a>, providing practical advice for buyers on establishing\u00a0if goods and\/or services being procured can be provided by supported businesses, and on restricting competition to supported businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Today, the Scottish Government has published a new Scottish Procurement Policy Note (SPPN), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.scot\/publications\/public-procurement-update-reserving-contracts-for-supported-businesses-sppn-1-2025\">SPPN 1\/2025<\/a>, which replaces <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.scot\/publications\/reserving-contracts-for-supported-businesses-sppn-042017\/\">SPPN 4\/2017<\/a> and provides updated advice on reserving contracts for supported businesses.<\/p>\n<p>The SPPN includes information on identifying supported businesses, monitoring and reporting, and actions required to ensure organisations remain compliant with legislation. The SPPN also provides details of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.scot\/publications\/procurement-requirements-reserved-for-supported-businesses-dynamic-purchasing-system\/\">Scottish Government\u2019s Requirements Reserved for Supported Businesses Dynamic Purchasing System (DPS)<\/a>\u00a0which provides Scottish public sector and third sector bodies with a route to market for a range of goods and services provided by supported businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Alistair Kerr, Director &amp; Chair of BASE Scotland Network said: \u201cBASE Scotland welcomes publication of the updated Scottish Government SPPN. Scotland&#8217;s supported businesses play an important part in Scotland&#8217;s social &amp; economic ambitions. Many of the supported businesses have histories dating back over 150 years of providing support for people who society had left behind. They have developed into modern work environments offering employment opportunities for disabled people as part of a blended workforce, with an ambition to contribute to Scotland\u2019s economic success.
