{"id":1503,"date":"2019-10-14T10:51:25","date_gmt":"2019-10-14T09:51:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/rural-environment\/?p=1503"},"modified":"2019-10-14T10:51:25","modified_gmt":"2019-10-14T09:51:25","slug":"trading-with-the-eu-after-brexit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/rural-environment\/2019\/10\/14\/trading-with-the-eu-after-brexit\/","title":{"rendered":"Trading with the EU after Brexit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Scotland does not want to leave the EU but there is a strong risk that we may end up leaving without a deal in place on 31st October 2019. <\/p>\n<p>While the Scottish Government is doing as much as it can to mitigate the impact of leaving the EU, we cannot mitigate for every impact.<\/p>\n<p>Leaving the EU will mean things we currently take for granted, or which we agreed to as part of a Member State, will no longer stand.<\/p>\n<p>This note sets out what you need to do to ensure your food and drink business can continue to import\/export to and from the EU after Brexit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Issue<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the event of Brexit our trading relationship with the EU will change. <\/p>\n<p>In a no deal scenario import\/export tariffs will be imposed on goods leaving and entering the UK\/EU. Certification requirements, which are currently not necessary as a member of the EU, will also apply. <\/p>\n<p>You may also find that imports\/exports from\/to some non-EU countries will become subject to tariffs, as trade agreements between the EU and those countries may not continue to apply to the UK. Current labelling requirements will also change.<\/p>\n<p>Even in a deal scenario, there is likely to be friction in our trading relationship where currently there is none.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Action<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So what do you need to do to ensure your food and drink business can continue to import\/export to and from the EU after Brexit?<\/p>\n<p>You will need to take the following steps:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\tIf you don\u2019t already have one, get a UK Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI) number.
