You may have seen in The Scotsman<\/a> today an opinion piece from James MacKenzie regarding our proposals for a Circular Economy Bill.<\/p>\n

A Scottish Government spokesperson said:<\/p>\n

\u201cA thriving circular economy presents enormous economic and industrial opportunities for Scotland, as well as significant environmental benefits. For our journey towards becoming a net-zero society to be successful, it must involve a fundamental re-think about how we use and reuse materials.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe welcome constructive views on our proposals for the Circular Economy Bill. As we set out in our consultation the Bill is one part of our wider plans for a new approach to reducing, reusing and recycling materials to help drive Scotland\u2019s circular economy.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn our latest Programme for Government we committed to using the same powers that banned plastic stemmed cotton buds and microbeads to ban other problematic single-use plastic items.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe continue work with Defra and other devolved administrations on UK wide legislation which addresses how products are made, what they are made of, the ease of repair and how they are disposed at the end of their lifespan.<\/p>\n

\u201cA range of other circular economy projects are delivered by Zero Waste Scotland from investing in circular economy businesses, reusable cup pilots and embedding circularity in the construction industry.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also continue to develop Scotland\u2019s ambitious Deposit Return Scheme, which will not only be an effective way of increasing recycling rates and reducing litter, but also provide a major opportunity to secure a new source of high quality material, develop our recycling infrastructure and create jobs as part of our ambition to drive the circular economy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
