You may have seen <\/span>in the news<\/a> today that young people from around the world are taking part in climate change strikes to raise awareness of the threat of climate change, and urge world leaders to take action.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Later this month, <\/span>First Minister Nicola Sturgeon will meet with a group of young people<\/a> from across Scotland to discuss the issue and hear their concerns. Further meetings with pupils are being arranged, so more Ministers hear the voice of the next generation. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A Scottish Government Spokesman said:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a cause for optimism that young people around the world are taking a stand on climate change and we are pleased to see our young people engaging actively on this global challenge. However, we do not encourage absence from school during term time and believe it is important that young people take up the opportunity to learn about all aspects of the environment through the cross curricular theme of Learning for Sustainability.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cTackling climate change should be a priority for all countries, businesses and individuals. We can be proud that Scotland\u2019s emissions of greenhouse gases have almost halved since 1990 and that we are leading the world in ambition. Our Climate Change Bill will set the most ambitious climate change targets of any country in the world for 2020, 2030 and 2040, and mean Scotland will be carbon neutral by 2050. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to go even further and achieve net-zero emissions for all greenhouse gases as soon as possible and have been clear that we will set a date for this as soon as it can be done credibly and responsibly.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
