{"id":2906,"date":"2018-10-31T16:34:53","date_gmt":"2018-10-31T16:34:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/scotlands-economy\/?p=2906"},"modified":"2018-10-31T16:34:53","modified_gmt":"2018-10-31T16:34:53","slug":"joint-statement-by-the-scottish-government-and-stuc-on-the-uk-governments-budget","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/scotlands-economy\/2018\/10\/31\/joint-statement-by-the-scottish-government-and-stuc-on-the-uk-governments-budget\/","title":{"rendered":"Joint statement by the Scottish Government and STUC on the UK Government&#8217;s budget"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">Following a bi-annual meeting between the Scottish Government and STUC, the two organisations have released the following statement on the UK Government&#8217;s Budget.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">\u201cWe stand together in our opposition to the UK Government\u2019s continued austerity and do not believe that it is appropriate to give tax cuts for the richest in society, whilst cutting the support available to the poorest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">\u201cThe reality of the budget is that Scotland will continue to be hit by UK austerity, the impact of the decision to leave the European Union and there was very little in the budget to boost Scotland\u2019s public services.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">\u201cThe changes announced to universal credit do not anywhere near far enough so we continue to call for the roll-out of Universal Credit to be halted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">\u201cThe Scottish Government\u2019s resource block grant from the UK Government remains almost \u00a32 billion lower in real terms next year compared with 2010-11.
