{"id":3487,"date":"2019-03-19T16:29:29","date_gmt":"2019-03-19T16:29:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/scotlands-economy\/?p=3487"},"modified":"2019-03-19T16:36:35","modified_gmt":"2019-03-19T16:36:35","slug":"scotland-norway-an-important-trading-relationship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/scotlands-economy\/2019\/03\/19\/scotland-norway-an-important-trading-relationship\/","title":{"rendered":"Scotland-Norway: An important trading relationship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Despite the uncertainty over Brexit, Scotland remains open for business and this is something we want the world to know.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">One country which continues to be of significant importance is Norway so I am in Oslo this week to help build on our strong relationship and continue to <\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">develop our economic, political and cultural connections.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">As well as meeting a number of key businesses and other stakeholders, I will be taking time to speak with <\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">the UK\u2019s Ambassador to Norway, Richard Wood. I will also be talking directly to Norwegian investors in Scotland and to Scottish exporters opening up new market opportunities in Norway. I want this visit to highlight that Scotland continues to be a fantastic trading nation and I hope to boost investor and exporter confidence during what is undoubtedly a challenging time.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">It goes without saying that there are substantial opportunities to grow international trade and investment between Scotland and Norway across a range of sectors and industries. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Scottish exports (goods and services) to Norway were estimated to be worth \u00a31 billion in 2017 \u2013 with Norway ranked as Scotland\u2019s 6<sup>th<\/sup> largest partner for exports in 2017. There are also around 110 Norwegian owned enterprises in Scotland with a turnover of \u00a32.23bn and employing almost 6,000 people. The energy and fishing industries are of particular importance to both countries too. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Arial\">No matter what lies ahead, trade across the world is crucial to Scotland\u2019s continued growth.
