{"id":376,"date":"2012-01-12T13:56:45","date_gmt":"2012-01-12T13:56:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.scotland.gov.uk\/scotlands-economy\/?p=376"},"modified":"2016-08-26T09:42:11","modified_gmt":"2016-08-26T08:42:11","slug":"tourism-figures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/scotlands-economy\/2012\/01\/12\/tourism-figures\/","title":{"rendered":"Tourism figures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"left\">Great news that the number of visitors to Scotland has risen by eight per cent in the first nine months of this year according to the latest statistics which were published today as I opened Edinburgh&#8217;s newest hotel.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">The results from 2011 International Passengers Survey and the GB Tourism Survey Quarters 1 &#8211; 3 show that overall spend by visitors has also gone up 11 per cent and the domestic market continues to perform well, showing increases of 10 per cent in visitor numbers and 21 per cent in spend.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Internationally, the number of visitors fell by four per cent but there is good news as the number of people coming toScotland from North America on the rise.<\/p>\n<p>The opening of the new Residence Inn by Marriot in Quartermile in Edinburgh is also good news for the jobs market and another example of confidence inScotland\u2019s tourism industry.<\/p>\n<p>We have many major events and milestones to look forward to for tourism in Scotland, including the release this summer of Disney-Pixar&#8217;s Brave.
