{"id":3908,"date":"2019-06-06T11:15:32","date_gmt":"2019-06-06T10:15:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/scotlands-economy\/?p=3908"},"modified":"2022-01-26T15:08:30","modified_gmt":"2022-01-26T15:08:30","slug":"eu-continues-to-be-key-for-scottish-exports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/scotlands-economy\/2019\/06\/06\/eu-continues-to-be-key-for-scottish-exports\/","title":{"rendered":"EU continues to be key for Scottish exports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;color: #565656;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\">The value of Scottish goods exported to the EU has increased by 18.6% in the last financial year, according to new statistics.<\/p>\n<p>The publication of <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20201018055125\/https:\/\/www.uktradeinfo.com\/Statistics\/RTS\/Pages\/default.aspx\">HMRC\u2019s latest Regional Trade Statistics<\/a> shows the importance of the EU market to Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the statistics, Trade Minister Ivan McKee said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are very positive figures and show the importance of having free trade with the EU.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe value of Scotland\u2019s annual goods exports increased by 12.9% (\u00a33.8 billion) to \u00a332.8 billion in the year ending March 2019. This was a higher growth rate than the overall UK figure of 3.5% and the highest percentage increase of any UK nation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was driven by increased exports of goods from Scotland to the EU, up 18.6% (\u00a32.7 billion) to \u00a317.4 billion. Total UK exports to the EU increased by 4.4%.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese latest figures demonstrate the significance of the EU to Scotland\u2019s international exports, highlighting the importance of the single market and customs union, which is eight times bigger in population terms than the UK market alone.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The value of Scottish goods exported to the EU has increased by 18.6% in the last financial year, according to new statistics.
