Commenting on this month\u2019s labour market statistics update, released by the ONS for February to April 2019, Employment Minister Jamie Hepburn said:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYet again we\u2019re seeing records broken in Scotland\u2019s labour market.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cScotland\u2019s employment rate rose to 75.9%, the highest on record. The unemployment rate fell again, to 3.3%, lower than the UK for the ninth month in a row.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd it\u2019s not only headline rates where we\u2019re performing strongly. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cLabour market figures for women and young people in Scotland continue to outperform the UK. Scotland\u2019s employment rate for women rose to 72.7%, higher than the UK rate of 72.0%. The employment rate for young people in Scotland also rose, to 59.4%, higher than the UK rate of 54.0<\/span>%<\/span>. Scotland\u2019s unemployment rate for women fell over the year to 2.9%, compared with 3.7% for the UK. For young people, unemployment fell to 6.1% – lower than in the UK and the lowest on record. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDespite the UK Government\u2019s EU exit plans, Scotland\u2019s economy and jobs market continues to perform consistently well. And the Scottish Government\u2019s commitment to fair work for all is again reflected in these results.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Scottish Government has consistently been clear that the best option for the future wellbeing and prosperity of Scotland is to stay in the European Union. Otherwise we will see people become poorer and lose their jobs.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
