Infrastructure Secretary Michael Matheson has signed the Heads of Terms agreement<\/a> for up to \u00a385m Scottish Government investment in the Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal. <\/span><\/p>\n

The signing of the agreement, which took place at the Mountain Bike Centre of Scotland at Glentress in the Scottish Borders, is a major step towards the funding of projects and programmes put forward to the Scottish Government by the Borderlands Partnership.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Scottish Government investment includes \u00a331 million to transform tourism, \u00a315.5 million to develop business infrastructure, \u00a320 million to enhance quality of place, \u00a37 million for skills, \u00a36.5 million to support innovation in key rural industries and \u00a35 million to explore the potential to extend the Borders Railway. The investment will be used to support activities across the South of Scotland.<\/span><\/p>\n

The UK Government has also committed to invest up to \u00a365 million in Scotland which will see a combined investment value of up to \u00a3150 million in the Scottish element of the Borderlands Growth Deal.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Mr Matheson said:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI am delighted we have reached this important milestone in signing Heads of Terms for the Borderlands Deal. Successful delivery of the deal will create jobs, protect existing ones and extend the benefits of economic growth to even more communities across Scotland.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAlongside the establishment of a new enterprise agency for the south of Scotland, and activities of the South of Scotland Economic Partnership, the Scottish Government\u2019s \u00a385 million investment will deliver significant and lasting benefits right across the region. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOur investment is focused on priorities defined by local partners and includes \u00a331 million to transform tourism, \u00a315.5 million to develop business infrastructure, \u00a320 million to enhance quality of place, and \u00a313.5 million to develop the skills and innovation needed to support the growth of key rural industries.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Scottish Government has so far committed more than \u00a31.7 billion over the next 10 to 20 years to City Region and Growth Deals and related investments across Scotland.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
