Research & Development funding<\/h3>\n

Trade and Innovation Minister Ivan McKee visited M2 Lasers in Glasgow to announce a \u00a32.9 million Research and Development grant, which will create 24 new jobs, including 18 new highly-skilled scientific roles. He said:<\/p>\n

\u201cScotland has a long tradition of being at the forefront of scientific and technological advances, and our investment will ensure this continues.<\/p>\n

\u201cM Squared is a company we can take great pride in \u2013 their innovation has led not only to an incredible rate of growth for the company, but also to enabling technological development in many fields including medicine, space technology and advanced manufacturing.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Scottish Government has set an ambitious target of doubling business expenditure on research and development to \u00a31.7billion by 2025 and Scottish Enterprise support is key in helping firms such as M \"\"<\/a>Squared to deliver that progress.\u201d<\/p>\n

Beatrice offshore windfarm<\/h3>\n

Energy Minister Paul Wheelhouse was in Wick for the official opening of Beatrice wind farm. The 84 turbine offshore wind farm is located 8\u00a0 miles off the coast of Caithness in the North Sea.<\/p>\n

Beatrice is the fourth largest offshore wind farm in the world and the biggest in the UK. It is expected to contribute \u00a32 billion to the Scottish economy over its lifetime.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Scottish Enterprise Chair<\/h3>\n

Finance and Economy Secretary Derek Mackay welcomed Lord Smith of Kelvin into his new role as Chair of Scottish Enterprise. Mr Mackay said:<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m delighted to welcome Lord\u00a0Smith\u00a0of\u00a0Kelvin into his new position as Chair of the Board of Scottish Enterprise.<\/p>\n
