{"id":4218,"date":"2019-08-13T10:40:50","date_gmt":"2019-08-13T09:40:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/scotlands-economy\/?p=4218"},"modified":"2019-08-13T11:03:45","modified_gmt":"2019-08-13T10:03:45","slug":"fair-work-driving-economic-growth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/scotlands-economy\/2019\/08\/13\/fair-work-driving-economic-growth\/","title":{"rendered":"Strong and inclusive labour market"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Commenting on the latest ONS labour market statistics update, which cover April 2019 to June 2019, Business Minister Jamie Hepburn said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese latest results show that Scotland is seeing the benefits of our Labour Market Strategy \u2013 driving inclusive and sustainable economic growth through delivering fair and good quality work across our society.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cScotland\u2019s employment rate rose over the year to 75.4% and remains close to the highest on record. The unemployment rate fell over the year to 3.6%, also close to the record low, and 0.2 percentage points lower than the UK\u2019s (3.9%). Our unemployment rate has now been lower than the UK\u2019s for 11 months in a row.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEmployment outcomes for women and young people continue to be better in Scotland than in the UK \u2013 with Scotland\u2019s employment and unemployment rates for both women and those aged 16-24 outperforming the UK\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, while Scotland\u2019s economy and jobs market remains strong and diverse, the UK Government\u2019s EU exit plans \u2013 particularly the increasing likeliness of a \u2018no deal\u2019 Brexit \u2013 will cost jobs and make people poorer.
