Have Your Say. Join Experience Panels and help us design and build the new Scottish social security system.
At least 2,000 people with direct personal experience of the current social security system are currently being recruited to help shape Scotland’s new system.
Key to the design of Scotland’s new social security system is working alongside people who have the direct and personal experience and knowledge of the current one, and finding out from them what works, what needs improved and what our new system can do to support them. One of our key principles is that social security in Scotland will be designed and built with and for the people of Scotland, and these Panels will turn that principle into a reality.
Invitations have been sent by post to 18,000 people who have recent or current experience of the social security system. People can also volunteer directly to join the Experience Panels. We’ve tried to make signing up as easy as possible and people can complete the registration form online and post it back to us by freepost. There’s also a freephone helpline 0800 029 4974 (which includes language translation and BSL interpretation) if people have questions about getting involved in the Panels or if they need additional support to register.
We’re now into week four of our recruitment drive and have recruited nearly 1,000 volunteers. People have particularly commented on the efforts being made to make the registration process as simple, straightforward and supported as possible. Over the next few weeks we will have dedicated themed benefit weeks, with a focus on ill-health and disability this week. The Experience Panels team will be out and about at range of events and meetings and we will share updates on this blog site on our activities as well as features from people with personal experience of benefits as well as how some of the key organisations we work with are getting involved.
If you are interested in registering for the Experience Panels or want to find out more visit www.gov.scot/socialsecurity or call 0800 029 4974. We want to reach as many people with recent experience of benefits as possible. It’s crucial that we get a wide representation across all of the devolved benefits signing-up.
