{"id":1324,"date":"2022-01-13T14:00:26","date_gmt":"2022-01-13T14:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/statistics\/?p=1324"},"modified":"2022-01-13T14:01:44","modified_gmt":"2022-01-13T14:01:44","slug":"changes-to-covid-19-case-reporting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.gov.scot\/statistics\/2022\/01\/13\/changes-to-covid-19-case-reporting\/","title":{"rendered":"Changes to COVID-19 case reporting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From today, 13 January 2022, in addition to reporting the number of people testing positive for COVID-19 through a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test, we will also begin reporting a combined figure for the number of people who have recorded a first positive PCR or an LFD (lateral flow device) test.<\/p>\n<p>This change in reporting will ensure that we continue to provide the most accurate information available, following our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.scot\/news\/self-isolation-and-testing-changes\/\">announcement<\/a> that people who do not have symptoms of COVID-19 no longer need to take a PCR test to confirm a positive LFD result.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Where can I access the data?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Headline figures on the updated case definition are available on our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.scot\/publications\/coronavirus-covid-19-daily-data-for-scotland\/\">COVID-19 daily data webpage<\/a> with more detailed analysis available on the <a href=\"https:\/\/public.tableau.com\/app\/profile\/phs.covid.19\/viz\/COVID-19DailyDashboard_15960160643010\/Overview\">PHS COVID-19 Daily Dashboard<\/a>. We will also provide a daily breakdown including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>PCR only cases<\/li>\n<li>LFD with confirmatory PCR cases<\/li>\n<li>LFD only cases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We\u2019ve updated our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.scot\/publications\/coronavirus-covid-19-data-definitions-and-sources\/\">data definitions and sources page<\/a> to reflect the changes.<\/p>\n<p>These new statistics are presented by Public Health Scotland (PHS) as \u2018experimental statistics\u2019 which are official statistics that are published in order to involve users and stakeholders in their development and as a means to build in quality at an early stage. The data may also be subject to future revision as the new method for counting combined PCR and LFD tests evolves.<\/p>\n<p>Initially this data will only be provided at a national level.\u00a0 Further work is underway in PHS to disaggregate this data to Health Board and Local Authority level.\u00a0 This should be available for public reporting over the course of next week on the <a href=\"https:\/\/public.tableau.com\/app\/profile\/phs.covid.19\/viz\/COVID-19DailyDashboard_15960160643010\/Overview\">PHS COVID-19 Daily Dashboard<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4><strong><br \/>\nHow does this differ from previous reporting?<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Previous reporting on cases was based on PCR tests only, as those with positive LFDs would go on to receive a confirmatory PCR and then be reported in the case count.<\/p>\n<p>We will continue to update the data on PCR tests and cases as previously published on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.scot\/publications\/coronavirus-covid-19-daily-data-for-scotland\/\">COVID daily data webpage<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.scot\/publications\/coronavirus-covid-19-trends-in-daily-data\/\">spreadsheets<\/a> to allow users to monitor trends in PCR only cases.
