Today the Scottish Government\u2019s Equality Analysis team were pleased to publish Scotland\u2019s Equality Evidence Strategy 2023-2025<\/a>. In this blog I\u2019d like to tell you about the strategy and how it was developed.<\/p>\n

The strategy presents a refreshed vision, and accompanying principles, for equality evidence improvement and an ambitious three-year programme of work to strengthen Scotland\u2019s equality evidence base across the Scottish Government and National Records of Scotland (NRS). By creating a stronger and more complete equality evidence base, the new equality evidence strategy will support the collective effort across the Scottish public sector to fulfil the requirements of the Public Sector Equality Duty.<\/a><\/p>\n

Scotland\u2019s Equality Evidence Strategy 2023-2025 builds on the success of our Equality Data Improvement Programme (EDIP)<\/a>. Through the first phase of the EDIP, which launched in April 2021, we worked closely with partner organisations to undertake a range of actions to share good practice and make improvements to priority datasets.<\/p>\n

Scotland\u2019s Equality Evidence Strategy 2023-2025 was developed with the views and experiences of a range of stakeholders at its heart. We carried out a public consultation<\/a> between July and October 2022 to gather views on the vision and a number of draft actions, as well as the opportunities and challenges in collecting and using equality evidence. We received a total of 116 responses, 87 from organisations and 29 from individuals.<\/p>\n

We also carried out a series of stakeholder engagement events to help us further understand what practical steps can be taken to address the barriers to collecting, analysing and using equality evidence. You can find out more in our previous blog<\/a>, published in January. The analysis of the consultation responses and views raised at the events are presented in Annex C of the strategy.<\/p>\n

To ensure we learn from and share good practice across the public sector, the strategy will continue to be governed by the EDIP project board that is co-chaired by the Scottish Government\u2019s Chief Statistician and Chief Social Researcher and includes representatives from a range of external public sector bodies with a key interest in equalities.<\/p>\n
