These provide detailed data on people who receive social care services in their own home and are useful for benchmarking and planning purposes as well as providing the definitive data for anyone interested in care at home.<\/p>\n<p>The publication includes information on home care services, community alarms and telecare, meals services and housing support. It also provides information on people who choose a direct payment to purchase the services they need. We will be following up this publication next year with a more detailed look at the data on self-directed support which is gathered in the survey.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime though, this year\u2019s publication offers some interesting perspectives on the number of people receiving home care, the hours of support they receive and the resources they use.<\/p>\n<p>For example, we know there were 59,780 people receiving home care services in the census week at end of March 2016, continuing the general downward trend seen since 2007. These are mostly older people &#8211; nearly 82% are aged 65 and over.
